about
part soundtrack, part remix, part electroacoustic composition simulating a trip upwards through the earth’s atmosphere and across the kármán line, considered the boundary between the atmosphere and outer space -- 100 km in 100 min
---------
for 6 or 7 years now, ambient & drone music has been an incredibly important part of my life -- it calms me, helps usher me into a meditative space, and makes me feel connected to our world and universe. this project uses as a conceptual foundation my love for these musics, for creating narrative through the editing process, and for nerdy stuff about outer space. on top of that foundation, i wove together songs, snippets, and other musical and non-musical objects -- many of which have been special to me for a long time but are sort of 'isolated' in my music library due to their brevity, obscurity, or specificity. my goal was to create a sort of guided emotional experience through different tones and moods. i hope it provides momentary relief from the physical & psychic gravity that, for better and for worse, keeps us grounded in the earthly and mundane
i'd like to dedicate this piece to my brother and sonic co-explorer cooper, who introduced me to stars of the lid, braids' 'native speaker' and so many other crucial musics that have hugely influenced how i experience the world
inspired by: nils frahm’s 'late night tales' mix, stars of the lid, dj shadow’s 'endtroducing', spiritualized’s 'ladies & gentlemen we are floating in space', braids, wikipedia, NASA
